National Apprenticeship Reform
Earlier this week an independent report into the future of the Australian Apprenticeship System titled "A Shared responsibility - Apprenticeships for the 21st Century" was released, which highlights many of the challenges and obstacles that can stand in the way of apprentices and trainees who play a key role in the development of Australia's skills needs.
The report details the expert panel’s 14 recommendations to address these challenges which includes:
- Skill shortages
- The economic cycle
- Completion rates
- Investment in training by employers
- The apprenticeship system being complex
- Misalignment of the Australian Apprenticeships system and the workplace relations system
The Group Training Association of Victoria agrees with an earlier statement by Mr Jim Barron, Chief Executive Officer of Group Training Australia (GTA), that “Many of the key features that the report has identified as best practice in this area have long been embodied and implemented as part of the successful group training model”.
